Major Function of the Gaming Board of Tanzania include the following:
Licensing
Gaming Board of Tanzania is responsible for the licensing of gaming activities in Tanzania in accordance with the Gaming Act and its Regulations. The licensing function ensures that only qualified and compliant entities are authorised to conduct gaming operations, thereby safeguarding public interest, promoting responsible gaming, and maintaining the integrity of the sector.
Inspection and Compliance
In ensuring compliance to the gaming law and regulations, inspections are carried out continuously to ascertain full compliance of the pertinent law. Inspections include inter alia, suitability of gaming premises, safety requirements, organization structure and gaming employees licenses. Other areas of inspection include compliance with gaming devices minimum requirements and casino internal control procedures.
Advising on Imposition of Gaming Tax
Gaming Board of Tanzania provides technical advice to the Government on matters related to the imposition of gaming taxes. Using industry data, market analysis, and regulatory experience, the Board recommends appropriate tax structures and mechanisms to support effective revenue collection while maintaining a stable and sustainable gaming industry. This advisory role assists the Government in making informed decisions that enhance compliance and maximize the sector’s contribution to national development.
Setting Technical Standards
Gaming Board of Tanzania (GBT) is responsible for establishing and enforcing technical standards for gaming equipment, systems, and operational processes in accordance with the Gaming Act and its Regulations. These standards ensure fairness, accuracy, security, and integrity of gaming activities conducted within the United Republic of Tanzania.
Ensure Honest and Fair Competition
Gaming Board of Tanzania (GBT) is mandated to promote and safeguard a transparent, competitive, and well-regulated gaming environment that provides equal opportunities to all licensed operators. This is achieved through the development and enforcement of clear regulatory frameworks that prevent monopolistic tendencies, unfair trade practices, and any form of market distortion.
Protection of Public against Adverse effect
Gaming Board of Tanzania (GBT) is mandated to safeguard the public from the potential negative social, economic, and behavioural impacts associated with gaming. This function is implemented through a comprehensive regulatory framework that promotes responsible gaming, protects vulnerable groups, and ensures that gaming activities are conducted in a controlled and lawful environment.
Dispute Settlement
Gaming Board of Tanzania provides a formal mechanism for handling disputes and complaints arising between players, licensed gaming operators, and other stakeholders. The process is conducted in accordance with the Gaming Act, its Regulations, and the Board’s approved dispute resolution procedures, the objective is to ensure fair consideration of complaints, protection of players, enforcement of licence conditions, and maintenance of integrity within the gaming industry.
