Established under the Gaming Act Cap 41 of 2003, GBT ensures gaming activities in Tanzania are conducted lawfully, fairly, and responsibly to safeguard society while maximizing socio-economic benefits. Over the past two decades, the industry has grown significantly with the introduction of new forms of games such as sports betting and SMS lottery. To strengthen the oversight role, GBT introduced ICT systems; *GLICA and *GREMS, that automated regulatory processes, enhanced monitoring, and improved revenue collection. These innovations have boosted GBT’s efficiency, created employment opportunities, attracted investments, and facilitated technology transfer.

Despite diverse views on gaming activities, the industry remains inevitable in a globalized economy. GBT will continue to foster sustainable growth while protecting the public through effective regulation, awareness programs, and promotion of responsible gaming practices. We remain committed to implementing sound policies and measures that that build trust, safeguard stakeholders, and ensure the industry contributes meaningfully to national development.
